The Gauteng Institute for Architecture is showcasing the work of the top young graduates achievers of universities in Gauteng; the University of the Witwatersrand, the University of Pretoria, the University of Johannesburg and the Tswane University of Technology.
The architecture design process is complicated by nature, living both in the world of the arts and the world of technical performance. The nature of architecture today is orientated towards the design product more than the design process. This is therefore the reasoning behind why this year's exhibition focuses on the tactile nature of the design process; exploration, models and obsessions that embody architectural thinking. Technological advancement has provided powerful tools for representation in architecture today, however we are reminded that the essential yet traditional tools such as sketching, collage and model building are instrumental to a rich design process.
Each student has developed a design process unique to their teaching and experiences that are rooted in their designs respectively.
