Ivory Coast footballer Emmanuel Eboue
FIFA has banned Ivory Coast footballer Emmanuel Eboue from any football-related activity for a year, or until he pays his former agent money owed.
The former Arsenal right-back, who is now at Sunderland, was initially fined by a judge for not settling the fee and had 120 days to pay the debt – which he missed – and has now been given a year’s ban.
The 32-year-old will now have to pay his former agent Sebastien Boisseau if he wants to continue playing, or sit out of football for a year.
A FIFA statement reads: ‘The origins of the case involve a decision passed by the single judge of the FIFA Players’ Status Committee in July 2013 regarding a contractual dispute according to which Mr Eboué was ordered to pay the players’ agent Mr Sébastien Boisseau an amount owed to him based on the representation agreement between the two parties. The decision was taken on the basis of the FIFA Players’ Agents Regulations in force at the time (2008 edition).
