Pretoria - Freedom Park will commemorate International Day for Monuments and Sites on Monday.

In a statement on Friday, the heritage institution said it will join the Department of Basic Education, City of Tshwane and Lucas Moripe Foundation to commemorate and raise awareness about the day.

The day was established by the International Council on Monument and Sites (ICOMOS) to celebrate the diversity of heritage throughout the world. The theme for this year’s celebration is The Heritage of Sport.

“The 18th of April is a day which finds its purpose of having a reflexive ambience of cultural heritage worldwide. Furthermore, sport has been a strong activity, which has successfully aligned itself towards nation building and gives a platform for all cultural diversity to partake in,” said Freedom Park.

Freedom Park will tomorrow give learners the opportunity to appreciate the diversity of world heritage and efforts required to protect it. Ten local schools have been identified to conduct presentations through speech and poetry.
